Our Story

How a weekend drive through forgotten towns became something more.

It started without a plan. A detour on a rainy Saturday to avoid N2 traffic led through a village we had never heard of. An hour later, we were sitting in a farmhouse kitchen, drinking rooibos with strangers who became friends, learning about a community that had weathered drought and flood yet refused to fade away.

That chance encounter planted a question: how many other stories were hiding in the Western Cape's small towns? Over the following years, we set out to find them. Weekends became expeditions. We filled notebooks with names of bakers, potters, farmers, and winemakers who had chosen these quiet places over city success.

Eventually, people started asking us to show them what we had found. The tours grew naturally from those requests—not as a business model, but as a way to share places and people we genuinely loved.

What Guides Us

We operate on principles that sometimes make business harder but make our work meaningful. We refuse to include any destination where our presence might disrupt the community's character. We pay local businesses directly and fairly, rather than negotiating bulk discounts that squeeze their margins.

Our guides are not hired for their presentation skills but for their genuine relationships in these communities. When Thabo takes you to a wine farm in the Swartland, he is introducing you to someone whose daughter played with his own children. When Liesl shares the history of a Tulbagh building, she learned it from her grandmother who lived there.

This approach limits our scale. We cannot offer daily departures or handle large corporate groups. What we can offer is access to a Western Cape that remains invisible to conventional tourism—a region of deep hospitality, remarkable craft, and landscapes that reward patience.

The Team

Our small team combines deep local roots with professional expertise. We include former journalists, historians, and hospitality professionals who share a conviction that travel should educate and connect rather than merely entertain.

Every guide undergoes months of preparation for each region they cover. They visit during different seasons, build relationships with key community members, and develop contingency routes for unexpected circumstances. When weather closes a mountain pass or a venue has a private function, our guides adapt seamlessly because they know alternatives that no guidebook mentions.

Beyond guiding, our team includes logistics coordinators who handle the details that make tours flow smoothly, and a partnerships manager who maintains our relationships with the artisans, farmers, and proprietors who make our experiences possible.
